Default Why are Wintergreen Hammers so expensive?

I can understand Spears for being pricey, but why hammers? Do people actually buy them for 700k+ or am I mistaken?

They are collectors items that you are not able to get anymore. Plus less people have them because you guessed it, they're hammers.

I agree with the rest of your post but there are videos and a demo coming up and people still think GW2 is vaporware? Go figure....

They just announced that they will make it available for demo at the big software expo this fall. If it isnt there than id get a little suspicious. If its there than no worries.

Basically what the above posters said...you could only get the Wintergreen items during one event a few years back, and you had to either have participated in or attempted to pick the winners for the Celestial tourney...Anet's first attempt at an in-game automated tourney. The hammers are so expensive because...who wants a hammer that does 15 damage. At least the shields and spears have some use...

1. go look up current price for wintergreen sword/axe/shield etc etc
2. then go look up current price for wintergreen hammer
3. you now understand the question OP is asking!

I would agree that it is the rarity and the desire of some people to have the complete collection. You received your choice of two weapons, if I remember correctly, at least I have a staff and a wand from that event. How many people would have chosen a hammer? Even gold hammers are not that popular.

Just for kicks, I went into Kamadan and posted a message saying I wanted to sell a Wintergreen Hammer. Within about 90 seconds I had two people message me saying that they were interested in buying. When I told them the message was a joke, they started sending me all kinds of vulgar, usually mixed with a lot of frustration.

They want to have it simply just to have it...

most people still completely misunderstood OP's question, and i kind of feel bad for him, so i gave it some thought and i'll give you my theory. it probably has a lot to do with all the backbreaker shitters in HA. that's my guess.

Actually it does sound like you misunderstood, BB does require a hammer and 15/15 base damage for say, a bb axe, would still require a hammer (0 req means no points needing to be spent on hammer mastery...) so Gift3d is most likely correct. To the OP, as several have pointed out the "rarity" of the hammer and thus the increase in price is due to the lack of people choosing said hammer when they were available, and the current demand for the hammer.
